MY SON'S UNFINISHED AGENDA

MY SON'S UNFINISHED AGENDA

BY P S SUNDAR

My six articles on my son S Vignesh written on his last six demise anniversaries including this year (Oct 21, 2013) appear in this blog numbered consecutively 1-6.

In them, I have referred to the articles Vignesh had written. I hereunder give the scan of his three articles published in The Hindu (July 29, 2000) and The New Indian Express (June 26, 2002 and July 10, 2012).

These are strong articles reflecting his acceptance of the limitations caused by muscular dystrophy and hence deciding to do humanities/commerce course in Plus Two as he could not do Science course despite scoring excellent marks. And, in Commerce stream of Plus One and Two also, he was scoring high marks. He was mentally prepared to become a Chartered Accountant, Cost and Management Accountant and Company Secretary like me and his maternal uncle S Venkatesan so that there would be no need for practicals' classes.

But, God's intentions were different..Vignesh passed away on Oct 21, 2003, while he was studying in Plus Two....So, his becoming a professional remains an unfinished Agenda.

  1. The writings " MY SON'S UNFINISHED AGENDA" reminded me a Bible verse found in Revelations 14:13 .... Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”

    1. Dear Prem,

Two easier versions of Revelations 14: 13 are:

      1. Then, I heard a voice from Heaven saying, "Write this: Happy are those who, from now on, die in the service of the Lord!"..."Yes, indeed", answers the Spirit. "They will enjoy rest from their hard work because the results of their service go with them".

      2. I heard a voice from heaven saying, "Write this: From now on, those who die believing in the Lord are blessed." "Yes," says the Spirit. "Let them rest from their hard work. What they have done goes with them."

There are some 21 versions or translations of The New Testament to help people understand the original Holy Bible.

Another relevant message from The Holy Bible I remember for such occasion is Matthew 5: 14, 15 &16 which go, as introduction to Sermon on The Mount differentiating between Salt and Light as:

“14. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Most such messages in The Holy Bible are simple and easy to understand, more so, in the newer translations..We can draw such marvellous quotes to decorate our actions or even situations. And, more importantly, we should follow the great ideals so learnt from The Holy Bible so that the Lord accepts us...No point in just citing Biblical versions and doing acts diagonally contrary..

As you know, I endeavour my best to live The Bible way and seek solace for natural happenings beyond my control..

Many thanks, Prem, for kindling my thoughts on The Holy Bible.

      With kind regards,
